Did you know that Facebook -silently- killed the option for Fanpage admins to send a message to their Fans on the 30th of September this year?
That is huge right?
I found out when I got back from holiday at the end off September and was waiting for a storm of disapproval from the internet community but it stayed so silent that I’m almost sure that you probably missed this small change [..]. Seeing as a quick Google search didn’t reveal any results other than the Help topic on the Facebook site about this I decided to write a quick post on it.
This is just the first of a lot of changes that are coming to Fanpages and Profiles that a staggering 80% of users claim not to like!
The reason that Facebook gives for killing the message option, and I quote:
“As of September 30th you’ll no longer be able to send an update to fans using Facebook Messages. We want you to connect with your audience in the most effective ways possible, and updates that go to Facebook Messages may end up unseen in the “Other” folder.”
They do try to make your panic attack – that is surely setting in now – disappear by giving you some ‘other’ options to expand your reach:
- Post content on your page Wall so people see your updates in their news feed. You can target your posts by location or language by choosing Customize from the audience selector drop down before you post.
- Consider using targeted Facebook Ads or Sponsored Stories to help grow and highlight your message within the Facebook experience.
They way I read it “we want to make money” 
Of course that is to be expected after you reach a critical mass as a social network. Certainly there is nothing wrong with it but guys come on, who are fooling with the ‘other options’ line?!
All and all smaller businesses will manage fine but I can imagine that if you are f.i. Coca-Cola with a fan base of 35M you are scratching your head right now.. Let’s wait to see when the paid version of messaging to your fans is released #lol

I’m not a fan of this recent change. Being able to message fans was one of the great benefits of Facebook pages. It seems like this is going to encourage more frequent wall postings on the part of fan pages – which is seen as spammy by a lot of Facebook users and could ultimately lead to a lot more unliking the pages. Businesses are going to have to get creative!
Thanks for posting, I only just noticed this. You’re right about this being kept quiet. It’s such an highly important feature for page owners, I can’t believe they went a head and did this. Dumb move by facebook as its only gonna piss of people. They can do what they want I know, but right now there’s so many changes being made its just turning into a mess that will turn alot of people off.
I started article marketing primarily to gain the credibility of having published articles. Rightly or wrongly, that was more important to me than traffic. When I have my site up and running I will concentrate more on article marketing as it is one of my passions.

Not only that, there are a lot of changes in facebook which i think is not good. Some of the changes makes it more difficult to navigate, but still i can’t change the fact that some of people love it. I wish it would go back to it’s original phase.
I really can’t imagine they went ahead and did this. Wrong move by facebook as it’s going to piss of those people.
