I just had to share this with you guys as an example of how things can go wrong quickly when you are using social media as a company moreover as a not so populair company..
We have all heard the launch of Google Brandpages last week right? No surprise that loads of companies have started to register to at least assure that they have outpaced the online smartypants that register other peoples names just to try and make a buck later by selling it to the rightful owner of the brandname. But I digress, that is a completely different discussion!
So whose #fail was it this time on their brand new 1 week old Google Brandpage? Why yes it was one of the most ‘disliked’ kinda companies these days: a bank, and not just any old bank but the Bank of America! Yes the same one that had to be bailed out not too long ago by the Government of the USA aka as the taxpayers of America..
The #fail is even more painful when you know that Bank of America is currently firing 30K of its staff globally and makes you wonder if it was an inside job by a disgruntle employee perhaps or where they just hacked by a group that tricked Google into thinking they were the Bank of America? I wonder what will happen to the social media team after this ‘tiny’ little faux-pas?
Without further ado, here’s the screenshot of the Google Brandpage of the Bank of America that has everyones pants in a tizzy so to speak
[kudos to TPM for the timely snippet seeing as the page now gets a lovely 404 message]
So my question to you: “Bank of America gets ‘Brandjacked’ within one week on their Google+ page. Epic #fail or just bad taste by the hackers? What do you think?”
Wishing you a splendid day,

We want to hear from you!
